My Grandaughter
She loves to shop
For clothes and shoes
She likes to wear perfume
Her hair is washed six times a week
While she commandeers the bathroom.
Her legs are long
Her skirts are short
She goes out in high heeled boots
To parade in the town with her very best friends
Who have similar attributes.
She enjoys reading books
And she likes magazines
Cinema is a popular venue
Eating out in a good restaurant is a treat
She prefers a vegetarian menu.
She likes all kinds of cakes
And can bake them herself
And she’s partial to chocolate too
Politicians bemuse her but she tries to make sense
Of current affairs and the news.
She’s attracted to boys
Perhaps one more that most
Yet at college she seems to be sure
Of achieving her aims for a future of worth
Without jeopardising her leisure.
She’s thoughtful and kind
With a wonderful smile
She approves of a world that is green
I’m amazed by her energy, charm, common sense
After all she is only sixteen.
