Snowflakes

By moonlight, snowflakes
fall on early daffodils.
Silvering petals.

At noon a biting east wind
sweeps away the snow, leaving

Soft yellow petals
scattered, crumpled on the ground,
to fade away and die.

While winds and snow flurries
try to curb the growth of Spring

Forsythia buds,
bursting with bright yellow leaves,
stand against storms.

And safe, beneath the cold earth
Sleeping brown bulbs stir gently.
